Research Experience (PI or Co-PI)

TOLA (Transitional, Older and Late Adopters)

2009 - Present

With Valeda Stull and Cheryl Thompson. This project explores how transitional, older, and late-adopting populations are using social network sites. The work focuses on how social network sites enable the provisioning of social support among the population. The first wave of this study involved fifteen semi-structured interviews, with following waves including a survey and user study.

Boundary Regulation in Social Media

2009 - Present

With Woodrow Hartzog. This project explores how individuals manage disclosure boundaries in social media. The first wave of the study involved twenty in-depth interviews with individuals who maintain dual identities on a social media website.

Undergraduate Facebook Privacy Behaviors

2008-2009

With Jacob Kramer-Duffield. This project involved a probability web survey of undergraduates to examine privacy practices in the social network site Facebook.

Online Identity Management

2006-2008

With Terrell Russell (Co-PI). This project involved a series of studies examining how individuals construct their hyperlinked identities, using ClaimID as data source.

Longitudinal Adoption of Facebook

2005-2006

Using custom-built software, I collected weekly snapshots of the UNC Facebook. This data was then post-processed, and is in the process of being analyzed (using survival and hierarchical linear models).
