Information Seeking in Social Media

These studies explore how and why people turn to social media to answer information needs. Using a range of data, from large-scale social network observations to in-depth interviews, these studies explore the motivations, behaviors, and outcomes of social media use. Ongoing work involves exploring the use behavior of transitional, older, and late adopting users.

Privacy Behavior in Social Network Sites

I am very interested in understanding why and how people disclosure personal information in social media. By studying and understanding evolving privacy practice in social media, we will be able to design better tools, protections and legislation that will enable disclosure while reducing disclosure-related harms.

Online Identity Management

Complementing my interests regarding disclosure and information seeking, I am very interested in how people "get found" on the internet. I co-designed a technology, ClaimID, that helps people do just that.
